It's hard to be in the marketing space and not be familiar with Gary Vaynerchuk. The wildly successful entrepreneur, internet personality, author and investor has a personality that's larger than life. Whenever I see him come across my monitor or smart phone, I stop scrolling because I want to hear not only what he's saying but how he's delivering it. He reminds me of the uncle at the family reunion who deliberately spits knowledge between sips of cognac and purposely controversial opinions.

Gary is the thought leader behind thousands of YouTube videos but one that stuck out to me as a marketer was one where he reprimanded us marketers for ruining marketing.

Yes, yes, I get it. 

It's easy to jump on the bandwagon when you see everyone using a certain strategy online. Your competitors are bragging about their results and looking as if they're living the #bosslife on Instagram so you want to follow suit.

Trick is, like Gary mentioned, you want to pay attention i.e. use data to get ahead of the trends. You don't want to be on the dying end of the wave, right?
